TCFAH
Transitional Housing
In
June of 2004, with the assistance of Federal and County
grants, TCFAH officially launched the Supportive Housing
Services component of the Transitional Housing Program.
In embarking on the First-Year Anniversary, TCFAH is
celebrating the success of the program!
The
TCFAH has established twenty (20) single-family, scattered-site
Transitional Housing units within Seminole County. The
Transitional Housing program is designed to assist homeless
families gain permanent housing stability, by incorporating
comprehensive supportive services. Participants are
offered rent and utility subsidies, Counseling, Case
Management, Advocacy, Financial Education, and Self-Sufficiency
Training. Families are provided support services for
up to 24 months.
Lisa
Merlin House
TCFAH has spent over 3 years working with the Lisa Merlin
House in developing Supportive Housing for women, with
dependant children, who are struggling with substance
abuse issues. TCFAH is proud to announce that the HARD
work has finally begun to pay-off !
Although
the Lisa Merlin House is well established in Orange
County, there was a need to not only expand into Seminole
County, but to provide a facility that will also accommodate
women with dependant children. Often times, a mother
that is struggling with substance abuse issues will
not seek assistance for fear that she will lose her
children, and that her children will be placed in foster
care. This is not only damaging to the "family-unit",
but it hinders the Recovery Process, for both Mother
and child.
Through the facilitation and diligent efforts of TCFAH, the construction of a 7,600 square-foot facility is due to be completed by 2006. This new facility will provide the full array of treatment services required for substance abuse recovery, including the education and skills required to transition back into independent living. Clients can maintain residency for up to 24 months, and the comprehensive services are not limited to the mother, but include her children as well.
